The Danish Caroline Wozniacki defeated Maria sunday in the third round of the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami in two hours and 25 minutes. The score : 1-6, 6-1, 6-4.
« Maria was playing a really good first set, told Caroline Wozniacki after the match. I really didn’t have too much of a chance. I just thought, okay, I mean, I don’t have anything to lose. I just tried to go out there and fight for every point. Even though I didn’t feel 100%, I still went out there and fought. The third set I started to feel better already. I think everything started to get to normal almost, and I felt much better. »

In doubles, Maria and Agnieszka Radwanska won against the belgian duet Kim Clijsters and Kirsten Flipkens. The score : 6-2, 7-5. Quarterfinal against Flavia Pennetta and Gisela Dulko.

Naawww bad luck though. I mean it was better than the result of australian open. U fought hard n I guess that’s all the matters. Well done, bad luck.
Close. Very close. I watched the match live on TV in UK. Your level of tennis is going in the right direction. Take great strength from that.
it’s such a shame !! I don’t know why Maria gave up the second set !! she was playing so well in the first one !! she lost her confidence … next time will be the good one.
What a pity! Maria played real good tennis the first and a half set. Unfortunately someone ‘had’ to win.
But no shame at all. It was a great match and I’m sure Maria will take some confidence from here out
Ohhhman, what a match… ups and downs both of them…but Maria was the better fighter and risked more, i think…. so the victim of caro was unearned… Maria in good form…i like it! =)
Maria was outstanding in the 1st set. She was patient, did not rush the shot and made same amazing winners! But the 2nd set! Even the UK TV People were astounded at the change! Rushing her shots, everyting went bad. They said it was as if somebody switched Maria off, and that she lacks belief in herself to beat higher ranked players. BUT they also said that she was a better player now than when she was in the Top 20, and the Adidas Team had rebuilt her game which improved Maria greatly
You played really well in the 1st set with some great shots and nice volleys. Then, i think that you lost your concentration because you didn’t know if she was going to retire or not…I guess she managed to cut your rythm…By the way, i think that this tournament was positive after your great 1st round where you saved MP and after this match against the number 2 in the world…Good luck in doubles before playing on clay where you’ll show even a more beautiful tennis than in the 1st set!

The first set was phenomenal, great service game. Just missed out on a couple break point opportunities later in the match. Very good match though. Good luck in doubles.
it´s a pity… it was a great match maybe the best I´ve seen so far in Miami… Maria was amazing in the first and was so close in the 3rd to go through… Maria showed she can do Top 20 she has got potential… I´m very proud of you! Good Luck in Spain!
Maria is doing what she set out to do ie.. Go deep in tournaments and climb up the rankings. This year already QF Auckland, QF AO Slam, 3rd round India wells and Miami! I hope she will be back in the #2o’s next Monday!
