« When I saw the draw here and that I could play against her again, I said, “No way”. But I think she was thinking the same thing as me. And again we had a tough match. But I’m happy I won again. To think how many years ago I won this title. Every time I come here I have great memories. I have so many fans in China, they’re so nice to me. Many people come to my matches and my practice. Yesterday after the doubles they even broke the fence next to the court so they all fell out on the court – it was the first time in my life that’s happened. Hopefully I can win here again ! »

« We had a tough match at the US Open, with the longest tie-break. Today was another tough match and I’m really happy to come out on top. Every time someone wins a Grand Slam it’s always tough to play the next tournament, and I had a very good feeling about my chances today. I knew I had to go out there and be more aggressive than I was a few weeks ago. I was moving great in the first set. It’s a really good feeling to be able to play so well. »

« We didn’t play many tournaments so far this year so it’s difficult to think about Istanbul just yet. We’re just going to play and have fun ! » Maria said after the title match.

« It was one of the toughest draws we could have had and we’re so happy to have come through. It’s a great feeling. The hats were Maria’s idea. She went to Disney World after Miami and I asked for some Mickey Mouse ears. She said she would get me something much better… She brought these here and said if we win, we should wear them ! It was our decision to wear them if we won. It was very good motivation ! » Vika said.
