Maria in quarterfinal in Rome !

Maria won wednesday in the round of 16 of Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome against Dominika Cibulkova (SVK). The score : 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 in two hours and 13 minutes.

The quarterfinal will be against the world number one, Serena Williams (USA) ! Maria has played her twice before and was defeated in 2004 at the French Open and in 2006 in Los Angeles.

Then, Maria played the doubles match with compatriot Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and won by retirement their second round against Cara Black (ZIM) and Elena Vesnina (RUS). The score : 6-2, 0-0.

Cara Black and Liezel Huber won thrusday against Maria and Agnieszka Radwanska in semifinal of the Australian Open. The score : 6-1, 1-6, 6-3.

In New Haven in august 2006, they lost in the first round against Michaella Krajicek and Corina Morariu (2-6, 6-3, 6-4).

Maria and Dinara played once together in 2006 with Russia in Fed Cup against Belgium. They won against the duet Clijsters-Henin (7-6, 7-5).

Maria and the Italian Flavia Pennetta lost this friday the semifinal of the doubles tournament of the Kremlin Cup in Moscow against the duet number one in the world, Cara Black (ZIM) and Liezel Huber (USA) in 50 minutes. The score : 6-1, 6-0.

Maria and Flavia didn’t win sunday in Montreal against Cara Black (ZIM) and Liezel Huber (USA) in final of the Rogers Cup. The duet number one in the world won in 54 minutes : 6-1, 6-1.
