Great win vs. Niculescu today! And I’m glad you got up to #22. It’ll be difficult to go higher this week because there’s a big gap between you and #21 Daniela. And there’s a good chance that Vinci will leapfrog over you since she’s the top seed in Monterrey. But that’s okay. You’re playing well, and we all hope that’ll carry over in Indian Wells and Miami. But keep going in Dubai as far as you can! You’ll have at least a week to rest up before Indian Wells!

A tough draw for Maria in R1 this week. MN is in excellent form at the moment. I saw one of her matches on TV from Doha last week.

Oops! an apology from me. I completely misread the result of Maria’s match v SK. I thought Maria has won 6-4,6-4, not the other way round. A big thank you to Dave for the recent history of their matches. very helpful.

Maria has played SK a few times winning in the French Open in the 3rd round a few years ago, when Sveta was ranked sixth and Maria 30th. Maria lost more recently to her in the US Open. But Sveta when she is on can be very tough great ground strokes and moves reasonably well. Maria gave it a good shot this time around losing 6-4, 6-4, Peter, so they do have some very competitive matches.

Great win in R2 for Maria. Not too sure if she has ever played SK in the past, but she is a top player on her day. Maria’s excellent form continues.
