Maria won in the round of 16 of the Australian Open by retirement of the Russian Dinara Safina (back injury) in the first set (5-4 for Maria). For the first time of her career, Maria reaches a quarterfinal in a Grand Chelem tournament.
In quarterfinal, Maria will play against Jie Zheng. Maria won in december in Malaysia against the chinese player (6-3, 4-6, 6-4).

it is hard to find the right words right now, on the one side I am very happy that you are in the quarterfinal and Jie is definately not the worst draw and you also deserve to be there, no matter what happend today!
You have been playing a great tournament so far.
On the other side you are a very fair player with great sportsmanship, and I know that winning like this is not much fun for you and that you wanted to show everyone today, that you can beat a top 5 player and you were on a good way to it.
Guess this must wait a bit longer then, dont worry too much about today, keep your focus and the semi final is closer than ever and if things go well, you can still beat your top 5 player during the tournament.
