Does Andrei Kirilenko have a relative by the same name who plays women’s professional tennis ? You are obviously referring to Russian tennis professional Maria Kirilenko, who is ranked 27th in the world. Kirilenko reached the fourth round of the Australian Open in january before losing to ninth-seeded Daniela Hantuchova, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. She had beaten sixth-seeded Anna Chakvetadze in the third round, 6-7 (6-8), 6-1, 6-2. In her career, Kirilenko has won two WTA singles titles.
To be honest, I have also wondered if Andrei Kirilenko was related to Maria Kirilenko, but I never asked until getting this question. One morning after a recent Jazz shootaround, I stopped and asked Andrei if he was related to the tennis star. He said, “No.” I asked if he ever met her and, again, he said, “No.” End of that story.
