All is well with me, and I am in New York already. Yesterday, I had a day off. Today, I going to practice. My first match is going to be on tuesday.

My back is feeling much better now. I had a lot of treatment on it the past few days, so I am happy about it ! I am looking forward to my first match ! I hope you will support me a lot during the US Open.

Maria falled friday in semifinal of the Pilot Pen Tennis at Yale in New Haven. In quarterfinal, Maria won against Dinara Safina (RUS) in one hour and 29 minutes. The score : 6-3, 6-3.

Unfortunatly, Nadia Petrova (RUS) fought back from a first set blowout to beat Maria in semifinal (2-6, 6-2, 6-2) in one hour and 58 minutes.

« Even if you have pain, you have to try. I decided to continue, said Maria, who was treated for a low back injury during the match. I was in pain in the first set, but I won it because she was making a lot of mistakes. She was missing the first ball, the second ball. It was good for me. But then she started to play better. I’m playing well and to get this out of nowhere is always sad. »

Tuesday, Maria won against her friend Elena Vesnina (RUS) in two hours and 14 minutes (6-1, 3-6, 6-1). « Elena started by making a lot of mistakes but in the second set my serve didn’t work so well - I hit a lot of double faults and became too passive, said Maria after the match. I changed my racquet at the start of the third and began to feel the ball again and play more aggressively. »

In the second round, Maria defeated Timea Bacsinszky (SUI) in one hour and 13 minutes (6-3, 6-1). In quarterfinal, Maria will play against Daniela Hantuchova (SVK) or Dinara Safina (RUS).
